What Dungelo keeps about you

No accounts, emails, ads or ad trackers. Your hero is a random name and an anonymous ID saved in this browser.

In the Steam app, Steam signs you in instead. The server asks Steam whether your account owns Dungelo and keeps a scrambled (keyed-hash) form of your Steam account number to find your hero again. It reads your Steam name once, when your hero is made, and builds your hero's name from it with a title. Nothing else from Steam: not your profile, friends or games.

For each run the server keeps your moves and a summary of how it went: floors reached, fights, perks, items, and time spent on each floor. That's how scores are checked, how your streak, Ledger badges and rating are worked out from the days you played ranked, and how the game gets rebalanced. Your codex, the list of monsters, items and places you've met, is worked out from the same moves and kept with your hero. It's tied to your hero, not to you, your device or your school.

If you thumb a line of What's new up or down, the server keeps that vote with your hero, so you can change it. Votes are only ever added up, and count more from heroes who've played on more days.

Beta testers Schmug has invited can send a bug report from a run. A report keeps which run it was, the turn and floor, a picture of the map as it was on screen, and the note you wrote, with your hero, so the moment can be replayed. Nothing else from your device. If you're not a beta tester, the game never offers it.

You can delete your hero at any time under Settings, Delete my hero. The server then removes the hero and everything above that's kept with it: name, look, recovery code, Steam link, runs and their summaries, scores, medals, codex, rating, votes and bug reports. If your hero was one of a day's champions, the gift on the next day's map stays, signed "a fallen hero" instead of its name.

Your network address is only used to limit how many new heroes one network can make in a day: the limiter keeps a scrambled (keyed-hash) form of it, never the address itself, deletes it after two days, and never links it to your runs. The game counts page visits and load times itself, as daily totals: whether the screen is a phone, whether you've played before, and how fast the page loaded. No cookies, and nothing is sent if your browser asks not to be tracked.

This is the same note the game shows on its home screen, for the browser game at dungelo.cortech.online and the Steam app alike.
